Winthrop Pharmaceuticals (Pty) Ltd, (a member of the sanofi-aventis Group), acquired PharmaChoice Healthcare (Pty) Ltd, a leading local nutraceutical company on 1st October 2007. The acquisition enabled sanofi-aventis South Africa to increase its share of voice in the OTC market and offer the consumer additional brands along with trusted favorites such as Essentiale and Maalox.	One of the key success factors for the original PharmaChoice was the ability to adapt to changing customer needs through timeous launches of new and innovative brands and line-extensions.
